How We Gather

I recently listened to a podcast by Commune called "How We Gather." This episode really resonated with me and has inspired this post.


If you have a listen, they discuss where people are now turning to in order to find relationships, and even spirituality in their daily lives. They mention that a majority of Millennials in America consider themselves to be nonrelgious. In different generations, connections in community were created at church. Today, a lot of people (myself included) still attend church, but many are finding other spaces to gather and find that sense of community. For some, it's at their yoga studio, and for others it's at their Crossfit gym. And this totally makes sense, a lot of fitness and wellness studios create an environment where you can not only improve you physical body, but also explore your connection to your mind and your connection to the those around you.


"And so, to be deeply known and deeply loved is transformational."

In the past year, I've learned more about the power of being part of a community. In my early 20s, I used to seek out connection at parties, concerts, and let's be honest: at the club. But for the better, some things have changed. These days, gathering in my church, yoga studio, and spin studio have given me different levels of connection to myself, others and to God. I used to think that I didn't need to make new friends in these spaces. However, I'm learning that being in relationships with others can teach you so many things, things that you may never learn on your own. It can also provide a certain level of support and accountability that you could not have otherwise. I mean, who doesn't want to have friends that you meet with in real life, rather than just speaking to through your phone? We crave connection and human interaction, why not go with it and build on that? I hope to work on this this year, and continue to build meaningful relationships with those that I am gathering with.
